History
Springbrook chapel was originally a Lutheran ministry located 12 miles from
Springbrook Estate, and was built and established in 1897. The parish flourished
through the 1990's, but as newer churches were built nearby, the parish
began to diminish. The parishioners were aging and there was not enough money
to
maintain the church, or to promote it. By 1996, the parish disbanded and
the church was listed to be sold.
Springbrook then adopted the church in 1996 and made plans to move it to
the Estate. After months of organization, the entire church was lifted
from its
foundation in one piece, loaded on an oversized semi and driven down the
road to the Estate. The church was still in decent condition, so there
was not much
restoration work to do, but it would be a few years before the church opened
to the public. There was still a basement to be dug (which is now home
to the reception facility), a gazebo to be built and landscaping to be done.
The chapel is now complete and open to the public for ceremonies. It
rests a couple hundred yards from a pure artesian spring and Springbrook
Pond.
It feels right at home.
